Erasmus Mundus scholarships in EMARO Masters programme for non-EU students

Source: http://scholarization.blogspot.com/2009/10/europe-erasmus-mundus-scholarships-in.html

The Erasmus Mundus programme supports high-quality European Masters Courses, by providing attractive grants for students having excellent academic results from around the world to engage in postgraduate study at EMARO institutions.

For 2010-2011 academic year, EMARO Masters programme will have about 8 Erasmus Mundus scholarships for non-EU students who did not had a stay in an EU-country for more than one year over the last five years (called category A students). Owing to the limited number of grants a student which is not rank among the top 10% of his class has small chance to be selected. The selected student, will receive a grant of totally 24 000€ per year. The application to an Erasmus Mundus scholarship is done through the classical student’s application procedure of EMARO. Please note that the number of applications by third country students must be limited to three Erasmus Mundus Masters Courses maximum. In the eventual case that a student applies to more than three EM Courses he/she will be excluded from the selection for an Erasmus Mundus Scholarship.

A proposal to Erasmus Mundus programme in Brussels must be sent on January 2010 and consists of a main list and a waiting list. At most two students from the same country can be selected in the main list. The final decision about the scholarships will be sent to students as soon as we receive it from Brussels (end of February). If some students withdraw from the main list, the best students from the waiting list will be upgraded to the main list and will be notified immediately.

Objectives:
The Masters is designed to promote a high-quality educational offer in the area of advanced and intelligent robotics. After graduation the students will have mastered the different areas of robotics (Mathematical modeling, Control Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical design) in order to be able to deal with Robotics systems as a whole rather than just to concentrate on one particular area. The career prospects for EMARO graduates are very good as the proposed courses are relevant to today’s high technology society and because the current output of universities is insufficient to meet the demands of industry and research programmes. Students may take the master as a professional terminal degree, or join PhD programmes afterwards.

Duration and mobility:
The programme of study lasts two academic years (120 ECTS) split into four equally loaded semesters. The student has to spend the first two semesters in one institution and the second two semesters in another institution.

Summary of study programme:
The language of instruction is English, but local language and culture courses of the hosting countries are included in the programme of study. The aim of the first two semesters is to provide the students with a solid interdisciplinary background across the main areas of robotics (Cognition, Action, Perception). During the third semester, depending on the host institution, the student will deal with one or more of the following sectors: industrial robot systems, service robots (domestic, health, rehabilitation, leisure), and space and security robots. The fourth semester is dedicated to the Masters Thesis. The student carries out his/her research work under the joint supervision of two advisors from two different consortium institutions.

Degrees awarded:
Students that graduate from the EMARO masters course will obtain two masters degrees from the institutions where they studied. The obtained degrees are officially recognised and give full access to PhD study programmes.
The Consortium will deliver Diploma supplement describing the nature, level, context, content and status of the studies that were pursued and successfully completed by the student.

Admission Requirements:
The masters course applies to European and third country-students who already hold a first university degree with 180 ECTS, after at least three years of university studies (at the level of bachelor of science), in a field related to Robotics area such as: automatic control, computer science, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and applied mathematics. The applicants have to be fluent in writing and reading in English. The admission is decided on the basis of excellence of the academic records of the student, the quality of her/his former studies, motivations, reference letters and general skills for foreign languages. The EMARO Consortium recruits about 45 students each year, about 15 in each institution. The Professor/student ratio is about 1/2.

  5. My name is Haileslassie Gebremeskel I am an Ethiopian young gay graduated with Bachelor Science in Horticulture on June 27, 2007 G.C form Jimma University. After I had been graduated I worked in ministry of agriculture and rural development for the last three years. But at this time I am working in Ethiopian Institute Agricultural Research, Wondo Genet Agricultural Research Center under the Crop Research Process as Aromatic, Medicinal and Biofuel plants case team coordinator and junior researcher particularly focusing on (collection of new variety from the wild, Optimization of agronomic for cultivation, Recommended fertilizer and pesticide use, Development of fast growing varieties with disease tolerance, high yield(high herbage yield and essential oil content), producing plant that prevent, alleviate and cure human health safely than the synthetic once, early maturing, Determination of maturity and time of harvesting, Number of economically viable harvests and methods of harvesting) which are proposed as the main production aspect of those projects conducting by the institution. I tried to use all my effort to prepare relevant documents for the different organization and institution including manual and scientific paper (as published in Journal of Medicinal Aromatic plant Science and biotechnology, Japan). For me, it is not enough to explore my potential that is why I summon this opportunity to pursue my post graduate studies.

    With best regards

    Haileslassie Gebremeskel
